Athletic Greens taste

What does AG1 from Athletic Greens taste like?

Users ask this question again and again, which is due to the fact that it is actually very difficult to describe the taste of AG1, but at the same time you have a concrete idea of what a green smoothie should actually taste like.

When a green powder is mixed with water to make a green smoothie, you pretty quickly have an association about the taste. If you then read the list of 75 AG1 ingredients (we mention spirulina, pea protein and broccoli powder as examples here), the suspicion about a dull-bitter shake is further substantiated. But is this really the case? We did the Athletic Greens taste test and here we try to describe the taste of AG1 to you as best we can.

AG1 taste test (funny)

In fact, it tasted better than i was expecting.

What does AG1 by Athletic Greens taste like? Athletic Greens also has a hard time summing up the taste, precisely because it is difficult to compare it with other flavours. No wonder, with a total of 75 ingredients. While the Athletic Greens company admits that it tastes different for everyone, it also claims that its customers say that the supplement tastes slightly sweet and earthy – despite the lack of sweeteners.

So Athletic Greens simply took to Facebook to ask users what they thought Athletic Greens (the powder is now called AG1, after all) tasted like.

Here are a few answers:

In summary, taste statements like:

  • Happiness in a glass
  • Hubba bubba bubble gum
  • Tastes like carob with a house of green grass.

Oh my gosh […] it tastes like pineapple

In summary: Admittedly, the test remains somewhat superficial. Hence, our interpretation of the taste:
The sweetness of Athletic Greens is reminiscent of an unripe banana. But without the furry aftertaste. At the same time, there is a fresh and sour apple note. This pleasing mixture of sweet and sour is the reason why many feels reminded of a chewing gum from childhood.

Curious, or is our interpretation not good enough? Then we recommend simply giving AG1 by Athletic Greens a try:

Athletic Greens taste review

Here is a nice AG1 taste test in which a wife gives her husband Athletic Greens to try for the first time. Until then, he only knew another Greens Shake that tasted much greener and more bitter:

Improve Athletic Green’s taste?

Do you want to improve the Athletic Greens taste? As you can see from the first statements, AG1 already tastes amazingly good. Nevertheless, we wanted to see how we could optimize the taste even further. And there are indeed a few possibilities, some of which even compensate for the deficits of AG1.

Shake instead of stir!

Yes, you can mix AG1 in water with a spoon and get a delicious result without lumps! Nevertheless, these small white elements always remain in the shake (see picture below). These are the minerals that are not soluble in water. Nevertheless, we recommend shaking AG1 in a shaker because this creates a delicious cream on the shake, which simply is it for us, just like a good espresso, and makes the AG1 drink a little “smoother” in taste overall.

Important: In the July 2025, new customers get this AG1 shaker free with their order!

AG1 with ice cubes

AG1 on the Rocks? In fact, Athletic Greens always recommends that you shake the AG1 powder with water that is as cold as possible to get the best taste.

By the way, this is not the reason why you should store the powder in the refrigerator after opening the bag. This is because of the live cultures contained in the powder, which keep much longer in the refrigerator.

AG1 with banana and oat flakes

If the AG1 drink is too liquid, and you want a little more satiety with Athletic Greens, you should mix the powder with a banana and oat flakes. You can also use milk or fruit juice instead of water. Depending on whether you want to spoon or drink this filling breakfast, you can spoon it from a bowl, or mix it first and then drink it from a glass.
